Rapid Assessment of the Status of Gender and Energy in Zimbabwe

The work of the Green Inclusive Energy partnership focuses on lobby and advocacy efforts towards influencing the public, political discourse, and debate on energy, with the ultimate aim of supporting the transition towards greener and inclusive energy systems . Lobby and advocacy efforts are focused on national, regional, and international levels, working collaboratively with energy and non-energy partners, across sectors, public, private, and civil society.
Through comprehensive research is still required on the subject, the Rapid Assessment established the following facts on the status of women and access to renewable energy in Zimbabwe:
Low women's participatio9n in renewable energy governance, planning generation, and distribution,
Women suffer the consequences of energy poverty due to their location in rural areas and being poorer than their male counterparts
Women face energy p[overty which exposes them to health hazards from exposure to smoke and other remnants from wood and other fossil fuels
Energy poverty also means women work longerhours in unpaid domestic work thus reinforcing their poverty trap .
